Collaborative School Committee (CSC) applications due. Each public school in Colorado is required to have a Collaborative School Committee (CSC) that is made up of the principal, at least 1 staff member, 1 community member, and parents/guardians! The role of the CSC is to provide guidance to the principal on a variety of school-related topics, including the budget, staffing, and Unified Improvement Plan. Parents/guardians of all backgrounds and job experiences are welcome to join the CSC. Generally, the Lowry CSC meets 4-6 times a year; you can join virtually or in-person. Meetings typically last an hour; there is very little "outside work" to do for CSC. This is a wonderful way to get involved in your child's school. If you are interested in joining the CSC for next year, please complete the application by Friday, May 1 at 3 p.m.. We will hold an election the week of May 4. Message from Dr. Larkin:
We know that May will be here at the end of the week and the end of the year will be here before we know it! Our staff is still focused on student learning and instruction through the end of the year. There are a number of field trips planned, each of which supports student learning in some way; classroom teachers will send information about field trips and additional activities.
I am so proud of how hard our students work on the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) assessments over the past few weeks. Students worked diligently to show what they know on CMAS. We’re excited to see their growth and progress when we receive the data later this year.
What’s Happening at Lowry & DPS:
Lowry Elementary will be closed from May 30 until our staff returns on August 17. We will be getting a new air chiller over the summer; this chiller will help regulate the temperature inside the building more effectively. Our students will be nice and comfortable all year long!
Last week, we sent home information about applying to participate in Lowry’s Collaborative School Committee (CSC)--the application links are included in the Important Dates section above. The CSC works to provide feedback regarding important school decisions, such as the Unified Improvement Plan–which guides student learning, and budget issues. If you are interested in learning more about school operations and/or want to provide feedback on these areas, I encourage you to apply for CSC. Applications are due by Friday, May 1 at 3 p.m.
Are you interested in becoming a more involved member of the Lowry community? Positions as a Program Leader with Discovery Link's before and after school program is a great opportunity to join our team! To make further inquiries about pay, responsibilities, and hours, reach out to Caren Goldberg.
From DPS: The Read and Rise program is an engaging training designed to teach literacy skills to families who want to make reading a dynamic and fun experience for their children at home. We have been preparing for months, and we are finally ready to begin!
Why join Read and Rise? We know how much you care about your child’s success, and we believe every parent in our community has a unique and special contribution to make. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other local parents, discuss common interests, and build a supportive network.
Program Perks & Support:
Childcare: We provide childcare on-site so you can focus on the program.
Incentives: Participants will receive exciting giveaways, including gift cards, museum tickets, and "Parent Champion" bags!
Flexibility: If there are one or two sessions you cannot attend, you are still more than welcome to participate!
Event Details:
Location: Southeast Community Hub
Date & Time: May 5 from 1 to 3pm
Space is Limited! We currently have only 10 openings left in the program. We are looking to fill these final spots quickly and would love to have your family join us. Can we save a place for you? Please reply to this email or click here to sign up.

Dr. Annie Larkin
