Teacher Application Process

To apply for a teaching position at Denver Public Schools (DPS), you’ll typically follow these steps. 

  • Visit the DPS job board

    • Currently employed by DPS (excludes DPS Charter School employees)?

      • Please apply using the internal job board. Click HERE for instructions on how to apply as an internal candidate.

  • Search for Open Positions - Look for available teaching positions. You can typically filter by subject, grade level, school year and location. 

  • Review Job Descriptions - Read the job descriptions carefully to ensure you meet the qualifications and requirements for the position you are interested in. 

  • Prepare Your Application Materials - Update your resume, transcripts, teaching certificates, and letters of recommendation. 

  • Complete the Online Application - Fill out the application form thoroughly, providing all requested information and attaching your supporting documents. When you apply you will need to provide the following information. 

    • Contact Information

    • Social Security Number (SSN)

    • Resume

    • Cover Letter (optional)

    • Letters of recommendation (optional)

    • Employment History

    • Education/Teacher Preparation Program Information

    • Licensure Information

    • Endorsement Information

    • Copies of your official conferred transcripts (front and back of each page) from an accredited college or university

      • Foreign Transcripts? You must have your degrees course by course evaluated by a NACES member.

  • Submit Your Application - Once you’ve completed the application, review it for accuracy and submit it through the online portal. **Please note, you will receive an automated email confirmation that your application has been submitted and received successfully.**

  • Follow-up - Due to the high volume of applications, school leaders will reach out directly to candidates they wish to move forward with in the process. 

  • Interview - The interview process varies by school and may often include some (or all) of the following: 

    • A one-on-one interview with the school’s principal

    • An interview by a panel with current teachers

    • A review of a sample lesson plan and a teaching of a sample lesson. 

**Reminder: Dress professionally and be prepared to discuss your qualifications, teaching philosophy, and experiences. **

  • Wait for a Decision - After the interview process, wait for the school leader to make a decision. This may take some time, so please be patient. 

  • Accept the Offer - If you’re offered a teaching position, carefully review the terms of the offer and decide whether to accept. If you accept, review the Teacher Hiring Checklist and wait for further instructions from your assigned Talent Acquisition Specialist regarding next steps.
