General and Study/Travel & Research Leaves

A non-probationary teacher may request a General Leave or a Study/Travel & Research Leave. Requests for leaves for the fall semester must be completed online during a short period of time each February by accessing Teacher Staffing. Requests for leaves beginning second semester can be submitted during the month of November by accessing http://hr.dpsk12.org. All leaves will be approved by the Department of Human Resources.

Requests should contain the following information:

  • Name
  • School
  • Position
  • Leave start date and Leave return date (must be at least one semester)
  • Reason for the Leave
  • Contact information while you are on Leave

Written requests for Study, Travel, or Research leave must be received thirty (30) days prior to the start of a semester or trimester. Both General Leave and Study/Travel & Research Leave of absence may be granted only to a non-probationary teacher, as defined in Article 1-1, without pay, increment, or benefits when such teacher identifies circumstances, which may require an extended absence from the District. Qualified employees will be able to continue medical, dental and/or vision insurance through COBRA.

(NOTE: A non-probationary teacher is a teacher that holds a valid teaching license during their three year probationary period and has completed their probationary period with the District.)
