Tax Sheltered Retirement Options
The IRS allows full-time and part-time DPS employees to save for retirement and reduce their current income taxes. An employee may defer a portion of his or her salary on a pretax basis by opening an account with one of the District’s approved 403(b) vendors, the PERA 401(k) program, and/or the DPS 457(b) plan. DPS will deduct the amount authorized by the employee and send it to the tax deferred provider. Click here for additional information. Please know that it is the employee’s responsibility to monitor contributions to ensure annual IRS limits ($17,000 for individuals under 50 years of age and $22,500 for those over the age of 50) are not exceeded.
The following optional, voluntary insurance premiums are deducted from paychecks on an after-tax basis. Therefore, you may add or drop coverage at any time.
Indemnity Insurance
In case of an accident or illness, DPS offers optional supplemental insurance policies to pay cash benefits to you while injured or sick. Types of indemnity insurance offered include:
- AFLAC Personal Cancer Indemnity
- AFLAC Personal Accident Indemnity
- AFLAC Hospital Intensive Care Protection
- Personal Sickness Indemnity
